Microsoft has launched a beta version of its cloud gaming service for Windows. The Xbox Cloud Gaming beta is available in the Xbox app on Windows 10 and Windows 11, significantly expanding the gaming options available to PC users.
Using Xbox Cloud Gaming with the Xbox app provides access to many Xbox games for Windows users, but there are a few caveats to keep in mind.

The launch was announced by Jason Beaumont, Partner Director of Xbox Experiences, on Xbox Wire. He explains, “We are delighted to announce that we are bringing Xbox Cloud Gaming (Beta) to the Xbox app on Windows 10 PCs for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members in 22 countries that are part of the Insider program.”
So what are the caveats?
Well, since this is a beta, there are some potential issues that may (or may not) arise. Second, you must live in one of the countries where the service is launched (full list here). Third, you must be part of the Xbox Insider program. Finally, you need an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.
Beaumont goes on to say:
Xbox Cloud Gaming with the Xbox App delivers the same great Xbox experience you’re used to: Play over 100 high-quality Xbox console games with your friends; recover from a saved game you started on your Xbox; or try a brand new game from the Xbox Game Pass library to decide if you want to download it to your console.
With Xbox Cloud Gaming, you can turn any type of PC into a gaming device, from brand new, low budget computers to older machines with low specs. All you need to do is connect a compatible controller via Bluetooth or USB, launch the Xbox app, click the “cloud games” button, select your game and start playing. We’ve also added new features to get you started, including easy-to-access controller and network status information, social features to stay connected with your friends, and the ability to invite people, even those who also play in the cloud without the game installed – to join you in a game.

In June this year, Microsoft opened the Xbox Cloud Gaming feature to all Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers, letting them stream and play Xbox titles via the cloud from Windows 10, iOS, and iPadOS devices. Now, in the Xbox app on Windows for Xbox Insiders, instead of just using the web browser, PC users are gaining the ability to use the app to get their cloud gaming fix.
The Xbox Cloud Gaming (Beta) feature is now available to those enrolled in the Insider program across the 22 supported regions. With the update, Game Pass Ultimate members can stream cloud-enabled Xbox games available in the service onto their PC, even picking up saved games from the console. Remote play using the app is also being enabled, letting Xbox Series X|S owners stream straight from the console over to their PC.

Keep in mind those not enrolled in the Xbox Insider program on Windows 10 can still use a web browser to utilize Xbox Cloud Gaming. Once the app's new features are out of testing, it will simply provide another method of accessing the game streaming services of Microsoft.
