The sample library company promise you can “score to picture without theory” with its new sample library.
Following up on their well-received British Drama Toolkit, UK-based Spitfire Audio this week announced its sequel, Contemporary Drama Toolkit. The sample pack, which is aimed at film and television scorers, was again made in collaboration with composer Samuel Sim (The Dark Crystal: Age Of Resistance, Home Fires).
“We wanted to create sounds where you could really connect to the performance of playing and truly engage with it as an instrument”, said Sim.
The Contemporary Drama Toolkit contains 72 individual instrument patches and 44 combinations. Unlike the British Drama Toolkit, which was predominantly orchestral-based, Spitfire Audio gave the new library a modern sound that combines traditional orchestral instrumentation (albeit electrified) with electronic sounds. Amongst the violins and cellos, you’ll find a Roland Juno-6, vintage Korg MS-20, and processed guitars and vocals, the latter something of a speciality of Sims.
Spitfire’s new library takes a different approach to most sample libraries, being created more as an instrument in itself. “Similar to British Drama Toolkit’s unique scoring approach”, Spitfire explain, “CDT’s techniques make use of the entire keyboard and rely on velocity to unlock each patch’s huge range of expression”.
The kit includes a total of 7196 samples at 28GB. It runs on Native Instruments Kontakt and includes a copy of the free Kontakt Player.
